Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau isn’t focused on a new contract yet – NBA Update
The Chicago Bulls had a great regular season and topped the Eastern Conference standings for the second year running under head coach Tom Thibodeau. It is therefore no surprise that the fans and players alike want to see the coach stay at the club for a
long time to come, but Thibodeau has revealed that he isn’t thinking about an extension just yet.
Tom Thibodeau has been a gift from the heavens for Chicago since he came to the club back in 2010. Tom was hired before he had any prior experience as a head coach in the NBA; he was serving as an assistant to Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers at the
time.
Since coming over though he has made quite a name for himself. He won the NBA’s Coach of the Year award in his first year at the club, when he also led the Bulls to the Eastern Conference Finals. Moreover, he revitalized a flailing franchise and oversaw
the rise of super star Derrick Rose, the first Bulls player to win an NBA Most Valuable Player awards since Michael Jordan.
With such a list of accomplishments in a short space of time, it is understandable why Chicago General Manager Gar Forman wants to tie him down to an extended contract. Thibodeau though isn’t one to boast, and he isn’t focused on getting a new contract either.
"I'm not even looking at any of that," Thibodeau said on "The Carmen, Jurko & Harry Show" on ESPN 1000. "That stuff will take care of itself. I've been fortunate to have a great group of guys, a great organization, a great city. We'll have an opportunity
at some point to sit down and go over that."
The Bulls post-season campaign came to an early halt as injuries to key players, such as Derrick Rose, severely crippled the side. Tom revealed that he just wanted to go home and relax, he was only still not gone because he wanted to show support to Rose.
"I hung around because of what Derrick was going through," Thibodeau said. "I want to get a chance to get away for a little bit and decompress and then come back and I'll think about that (contract situation)."
