Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau undergoes a knee replacement procedure: NBA Update
The current Chicago Bulls head Coach Tom Thibodeau underwent a knee procedure which to ease his arthritic pain. Thibodeau’s partial right knee was replaced on July 13th
and the doctors have ensured him as he would recover soon.
Before the knee surgery, he was in constant pain due to arthritic condition which had roots when he used to play in the Salem State University and broke the cartilage and his meniscus had to be removed.
Talking to the media on Thursday he said,
“It's my kicking leg. I worked out every day in Boston and my previous stops; I didn't work out last year. It's good to do so again. I'm approaching everything the same way, preparing as if the regular season will start on time,
I'll make adjustments later if necessary.”
The 53-year old had a vast experience in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He started his coaching career in 1981 at Salem State University where he spent early coaching years. After working as an assistant for three years,
he was made the head coach of the University. He moved ahead and spent next four years with the Harvard University, where he took over as assistant coach.
The young and energetic, Thibodeau remained determined in his professional coaching career and at last received an offer from the biggest basketball league in the world. He arrived in the National Basketball Association (NBA) in
1989 when Minnesota Timberwolves offered him to be their team’s assistant coach.
Tom Thibodeau continued his professional coaching career with great dedication and gradually excelled in his skills. Before making an entrance into the Chicago, Thibodeau coached six different teams in the league. His last stint
was that of an assistant to Doc Rivers, the Boston Celtics coach. Over the years, he has developed a reputation of a defensive specialist and it was his insight and the defensive know how that made the Bulls one of the most robust defensive units in the league
last season.
Thibodeau marshalled the Bulls to the top of the league in NBA last season after nearly two decades of service, he received the Coach of the Year award in 2010.
