Chicago Bulls legend Dennis Rodman due in family court on Tuesday - NBA Update
Dennis Rodman, the former Chicago Bulls player and Hall of Famer, is due in a family court on Tuesday. He is incited on 4 counts of contempt for failing to pay child support.
Dennis the menace will most likely be sentenced for community service. According to his wife’s attorney Mary Ann Noiroux, he could also be ordered to pay more than $800,000 for child support.
Mary revealed that they have also filed additional charges for missed payments and another conviction can incarcerate him.
"For somebody like that, they could even have him help out with a Boys and Girls Club teaching basketball,"
Dennis’s attorney Linnea Willis refrained from commenting on the situation.
Dennis, who will always be remembered for his funky hairstyles and crazy rebounding skills, married Michelle Rodman in 2003, but the marriage only lasted for a year as Michelle filed for a divorce in 2004.
Since then, the couple has been fighting over the custody of children and child support. They have a son D.J. (born 2000) and a daughter Trinity (born 2001).
Rodman owes around $860,376 in child and spousal support and can face up to 20 days of jail time if he fails to make payments prior to May 29th.
This is not the first time Rodman’s marriage has gone bad. His 1st marriage was with Annie Bakes in 1992, only to end a year later. In 1998, he married celebrity Carmen Electra but that also lasted for a year as Carmen
filed for a divorce in 1999.
The 51 year old has been jailed before for misdemeanour, spousal battery charges and assaulting his wife. He was found guilty on the counts of contempt in 2011 for child support owed in 2009 and 2010.
In the same year, Rodman documented for insolvency and presented the court with the documents showing that he had earned around $150,000 in 2010. He is currently paying $4,500 per month as child and spousal support.
Jack Kayajanian, another attorney for Michelle said that they are not necessarily looking forward to jail Rodman;
"My desire is not to put Dennis Rodman in jail. My desire is to shake the tree a little bit and get money for his children.”
