Chicago Bulls players to get together for training during the NBA Lockout
A number of NBA stars have planned to get a hold of their teammates this offseason and arrange team practice sessions themselves. According to Kyle Korver, the Chicago Bulls are set to do the same.
Since the NBA lockout began on July 1st because of a dispute between NBA owners and players over a new CBA, players and franchises have been totally cut off from each other. According to the rules set down for the lockout
by NBA Commissioner David Stern, the NBA players are barred from using medical and training facilities of their clubs. Moreover, they cannot have any contact with officials or coaches of the franchises.
What this means is, that NBA players will have to fend for themselves in terms of training and medical expenses. Most players’ workout on their own anyway during the summer months but as the start of the season draws close NBA
teams organize training camps for their players. Since that cannot happen until the lockout is over, players around the league are calling up their teammates to try and get some team practice done on their own.
Chicago Bulls shooting guard Kyle Korver revealed in a recent interview that his team would be looking to get together soon for the same purpose. Korver said progress had been slow on the matter so far because players such as Joakim
Noah are still away on international duty for FIBA tournaments. Moreover some are busy in summer league games or promotional tours such as Derrick Rose.
"A lot of guys are playing on national teams or playing overseas. I think Derrick's [Rose] been playing a couple exhibitions, so until those kind of wind down, we obviously can't really do it," Korver said. "But there has been
talk about meeting up somewhere in California. L.A. or Santa Barbara or somewhere and having some kind of team meetings, team workouts. You want to be ready. And we have a team that relies on chemistry, and we want that chemistry to be there. That's definitely
something we'll be getting into in the next month or so."
Once other commitments are taken care of, Korver is of the view that the team will get together to train and get in sync with each other before, or if, the NBA season starts. Before Korver other NBA stars have been mulling over
the idea as well.
Amar’e Stoudemire had recently revealed that he contacted a number of his New York Knicks teammates, including Carmelo Anthony, for arranging a training camp. Memphis Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph is also believed to be working
on a similar agenda.
