Chicago Bulls pull off overtime victory against Phoenix Suns after facing fourth quarter comeback – NBA Recap
The Chicago Bulls were able to secure yet another victory as the team continues to survive in the absence of Derrick Rose, but had to work really hard for this one on Wednesday night as they were pushed to overtime by the Phoenix
Suns, managing a 112-106 victory in the end. The Bulls were leading comfortably till the third quarter, but the Suns turned the game around in the final period by outscoring them 31-17 and forcing the game into overtime. Carlos Boozer had an amazing night
for the Bulls, finishing with a game high 28 points and 14 rebounds. Luol Deng added 21 points and 5 rebounds, going 8 of 14 from the field. Luis Scola led the Suns with 24 points and 14 rebounds, going 12 of 22 from the field. Sebastian Telfair scored 17
points from the bench, going 4 of 8 for the Suns.
Phoenix opened the game well, with back to back field goals by Goran Dragic putting them up 10-8. Rip Hamilton then scored a three pointer for the Bulls, followed by a layup by Deng to put the Bulls up 13-12. A jump shot by Boozer
later had the Bulls up by 3, and Marco Belinelli and Nate Robinson closed the quarter well with a three pointer each to have the Bulls leading 29-27. Robinson was in the act again in the early going of the second period, scoring a three to put the Bulls ahead
36-29. However, the Suns came back with a 6-0 run to trail by only 1, and later took the lead through a jump shot by Jared Dudley. Chicago responded with another 5-0 run to lead 47-46, and then scored a further 8 points to extend their lead to 55-46. The Bulls
led 57-51 at halftime.
A jump shot by Boozer had the Bulls up 65-56 in the third period, and a three point play by Deng followed by his three pointer put the travelling team ahead 77-61. Phoenix only managed 18 points in the third period, while giving
away 26. Robinson scored a layup in the dying seconds of the period to put the Bulls ahead 83-69 going into the final period.
The fourth quarter was the Suns show, with the team opening strongly with a 14-5 run to cut into the Bulls lead and trail 83-88. A layup by Shannon Brown later in the period had the Bulls lead down to only 1, and a layup by P.J.
Tucker tied the game at 100 with less than 10 seconds left. Hamilton missed his game winning shot and both teams went into overtime. The Bulls, however, got their act together and opened overtime with a 6-0, cruising to a 112-106 victory in the end.
Chicago shot 50 percent from the field as well as three point range, but were surprisingly outscored by the Suns 51-46 in rebounds. Phoenix shot poorly from the field, leading to their defeat.
