Chicago Bulls set sights on the San Antonio Spurs spot in league – NBA update
The Chicago Bulls are enjoying their best season since the Michael Jordan championship era. Marching impressively towards the 60 win mark, not only have the men from the windy city roared to the top of the Eastern Conference, they have also become one of the most formidable contestants for claiming the Larry O’ Brien trophy this year.
Above all, they are certainly thinking positively, and that can go a long way in reaching their goals.
On Monday, Ronnie Brewer, the Bulls’ guard proclaimed being the best in the East is simply not enough. Brewer believes that Chicago can hunt down the leading team of the season, San Antonio Spurs, to clinch the best overall record in the league.
"We're trying to win as many games as we possibly can because we know it's a tough race in the East. We're not just striving to be the first in our conference. We're trying to go out there and get the Spurs and have the best overall record in the league," Brewer said on Monday.
With Derrick Rose, a perennial Most Valuable Player (MVP), only in his second year and the rest of the cast also punching above their weight, the team is showing no signs of retreat. Their surge to glory has even been more focused since the All-Star break, losing only four games during that stretch.
Despite having a phenomenal record on the court, Chicago is not done with the regular season yet. The Bulls lost to the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night, resulting in their second defeat in the last 14 games. The team sustained their two-game lead over the Boston Celtics, who fell against the Indiana Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse. However, Chicago trail San Antonio by four games after losing to Philadelphia 97-85.
The Chicago Bulls carry an outstanding record at home, 32-5, which is the second best in the league after the Spurs 33-4 home mark. Brewer said that the team doesn’t rely on specific goals while playing at United Center. However, he did acknowledge that protecting the home court is always a mindset.
One of the major reasons Brewer is convinced to chop down the Spurs is the charisma of their superstar Rose who is playing at such a high level. "He's been playing phenomenal. He's carried us when we have guys injured. Nobody would have thought [with] [Carlos Boozer] and Joakim [Noah] sitting out so many games, that we'd still win the games and be where we are right now.” Brewer said.
Chicago is left with nine games before the playoffs and they need to win almost all of them for the best overall record. The objectives laid out by the player seem tough but anything can happen the way the Bulls are playing and with Rose absolutely thrashing the opposition.
