Chicago Bulls set to extend coach Tom Thibodeau’s contract: Gar Forman – NBA Update
The Chicago Bulls will be extending Tom Thibodeau’s stay with the franchise until at least the end of the next NBA season. This was revealed by Chicago Bulls General Manager Gar Forman, who said that the franchise intends to use the one-year option it has
on Thibodeau.
Tom was only appointed the coach of Chicago Bulls at the start of last season. He had served as the assistant to Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers before that. Since coming over to the Bulls though Tom has completely turned the club around and made them
a dominant player in the NBA.
It comes as no surprise then that the General Manager wants to keep him at the club. In fact, the Bulls GM revealed that the organization wants to have Tom with them for the long term, and will be negotiating with him to this end in the offseason.
"Obviously, Tom's option will be picked up," Forman said. "And we started having conversations about an extension with him in the fall. And we hope to continue those discussions now that we're in the offseason.”
Tom Thibodeau certainly has made a name for himself since his appointment as the head coach of Chicago Bulls. In his first season he led the side to the NBA’s best record, and took them to the Eastern Conference Finals where they were edged out by the Miami
Heat.
Tom was named the NBA’s Coach of the Year for his exploits last season. He nearly ended up winning the honour again this time with the Bulls, narrowly missing out to San Antonio Spurs head coach instead.
The Bulls know that they have a special coach on their hands right now, and they are determined to keep hold of him.
"Obviously we value Tom greatly. We value what he brings to the organization, what he's brought to the team. We think he's one of the finest coaches in the league and we're hopeful he'll be our coach long term."
Thibodeau is the fastest NBA coach in history to cross 100 wins. He was terrific this season again, despite injuries limiting his team to throughout, and finally causing an early exit from the NBA playoffs.
