Chicago Bulls sign Nazr Mohammad; John Lucas III and Aaron Gray headed to Toronto Raptors
Chicago Bulls reach an agreement with Nazr Mohammad
The Chicago Bulls have reached an agreement to bring in veteran centre Nazr Mohammad who became a free agent this summer. The details of the agreement have not been made public yet.
Mohammad was part of the Oklahoma City Thunder last season and was a key cog of their defensive rotation. In 63 games during last season, he had an average of 2.7 points and 2.7 rebounds.
The 14 years NBA veteran has played for a variety of teams around the NBA and holds a career average of 6.6 points and 5.2 rebounds in the 834 games. Mohammad already has a NBA Championship ring under his belt which he won back in 2005 while being a part of the San Antonio Spurs.
He will now back up Joakim Noah, whose usual substitute Omer Asik was claimed by the Houston Rockets recently through a back loaded deal. Nazr's arrival in the windy city could result in increased playing minutes and numbers.
Toronto Raptors bring back Aaron Gray and secure the signature John Lucas III
The Toronto Raptors have been in a rebuilding process ever since the departure of Chris Bosh to the Miami Heat two seasons ago. In the past couple of years, they have been able to develop Andrea Bargnani and DeMar DeRozan as the key players in their organization.
This off season, as a part of their roster revitalization, they have re-signed centre Aaron Gray and also secured the services of free agent point guard John Lucas III.
Aaron arrived in Toronto from the New Orleans Hornets where he had an average of 3.1 points and 4.2 rebounds. After joining the Raptors, the big man showed slight signs of improvement as his numbers went to 3.9 points and 5.7 rebounds in the limited 16.6 minutes he received on average.
On the other hand, Lucas just finished his career best season with the Chicago Bulls by averaging 7.5 points, 2.2 assists and 1.6 rebounds. Before being part of the Bulls bench mob, Lucas’s only experience of playing in the NBA came prior to 2007, when he spent two season with the Houston Rockets.
