Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose accepts fine, stands by his remarks – NBA Update
Chicago Bulls super star incurred the wrath of the NBA, in the form of a $25,000 fine, for his scathing remarks against match officials last Monday after the encounter with New York Knicks. The NBA fine was coming, Rose was even expecting it, but he hasn’t
backed down still.
Rose criticized the match officials for not calling what he argued were clear cut fouls by the Knicks players. Even now, after the fine, Rose doesn’t think he did anything wrong.
"They were facts," Rose said. "I thought they were facts."
Derrick is the reigning NBA Most Valuable Player and highly regarded around the league. He has risen to superstardom very quickly indeed and is often seen in the NBA as the first genuine super star in Chicago since Michael Jordan.
That though hasn’t really translated to his relationship with the officials, at least in Derrick’s eyes. He contended after the Knicks game that the officials didn’t send him to the free throw line often enough, and said on Monday that he didn’t get the
respect he deserved.
"I've gotta be the only superstar in the league that's going through what I'm going through right now," Rose said last Monday. "But I can't say too much about it."
He is though now making a concerted effort to connect better with the officials and understand their point of view, while sharing his own concerns. It is part of a maturity process for Rose, who is still relatively young, but he seemed determined to not
let any of it affect the way he played basketball.
"I think I am," he said. "Where (I'm) talking to the officials a little bit more. It's not going to stop the way that I play. Where I'm going to continue to attack, play hard, and, hopefully, I get the calls."
All that said, Derrick was actually not very happy about the fine. Whilst he recently signed a max deal with the Chicago Bulls, taking his level of earning to those of the established super stars in the NBA, he still feels the burn of a hefty fine.
"Losing 25K hurts," Rose said. "I don't care who you are, it hurts. I was just frustrated at the time and I couldn't stop myself, I couldn't hold myself back from saying what I said."
The Bulls star is the spearhead for his side’s offense and is often responsible for much of the scoring. The Bulls rely on him to make penetrations and disrupt the defence of their opponents all the time, therefore when he doesn’t seem to be getting the
calls he should, it doesn’t only affect Rose, it effect’s the whole team.
