Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose could be playing abroad next season – NBA Update
Derrick Rose, the Chicago Bulls super star, has conceded that the door to an overseas move is open. Rose is one of the most sought after players around the world after winning the NBA MVP award last season, and the point guard
believes he could end up playing abroad if the NBA continues to be in a lockout.
"Yes, I am taking into consideration that I might move overseas," Rose told the Chicago Tribune. "I don't know where. There are a lot of great places overseas. I haven't really had time to get the details of every place."
The players were locked out by the league on the 1st of July after the expiry of the old Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Since then, National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) and the NBA owners and officials
have met a few times in an effort to carve out a deal which will allow them to start the next NBA season.
However, their efforts have been fruitless so far, and the uncertainty is pushing players like Rose to ponder overseas options.
Derrick, who became the youngest recipient of the MVP award last season at just 22 years old, says he hasn’t yet decided over where he would go, but once he makes his mind up about leaving the United States he is bound to have
plenty of options.
Rose also reflected on the lockout and the situation he, along with hundreds of NBA basketball players, finds themselves in. Just last season, the league and the players were on top of the world. The NBA was enjoying unprecedented
levels of fame, with the television ratings soaring high and NBA players becoming household names around the country.
Yet, now it seems like the fight between owners and players is set to cause an implosion within the NBA. The twist in fortunes has got to Rose and he is hoping that things return to normal;
"It's kind of weird knowing that I don't have a job right now," said the Chicago guard. "I haven't felt this way from high school. It's all positive, though. I'm hoping the season starts no matter when. Hopefully, I don't have
to go overseas.”
However, things do not look like getting better at the moment and the possibility of an NBA season is looking bleaker by the day. If the situation continues to prevail, the Bulls fans can find their ace guard, playing for a foreign
team. He would not be the first player to cross the pond though. Many NBA players have done so already, the most notable among them being Deron Williams of the New Jersey Nets.
