Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose undergoes a successful surgery to left knee – NBA Update
The Chicago Bulls All-Star point guard and last year’s MVP Derrick Rose underwent surgery to his left knee to repair a torn ligament on Saturday. The team has released an official statement narrating the surgery as “successful”
but did not give any details regarding the recovery of the star or the expected recovery time.
Rose tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on April 28th as the Bulls opened their playoff assignment with a win over the Philadelphia 76ers. The Bulls dominated the game and Rose was at his best until
the last 80 second of the game, when Rose landed after his jump and fell to the floor immediately to the shock of the Bulls crowd.
He was helped off the court into the locker room and it was later announced that Rose had infact torn his ACL. With their leader and main scorer out, the Bulls collapsed to a six game loss at the hands of the 76ers and were knocked
out of the playoffs in the first round.
It did not look so during the season as the Bulls finished the regular season with the best record in the league. The Bulls had been battling injury troubles all season with injuries suffered by Richard Hamilton and Luol Deng.
Even Rose had missed 27 games this season due to injuries to his groin, ankle, back and toe.
The Bulls General Manager Gar Forman has already stated that his regular season injuries are in no way related to his ACL injury. The Bulls went 18-9 in the 27 regular season games he missed, but were unable to continue the performance
after he was ruled out for the rest of the playoffs in just the first game of the first round.
It has been a difficult year for Rose as well as the Bulls. They battled throughout the regular season to still finish with the best league record for the second year in a row. And they finally had their starting five healthy just
before the playoffs. But the injury to Rose in Game 1 was just too big of a setback to recover from. To add to that, Joakim Noah twisted his ankle in game 3 and was sidelined for two games. He did make his comeback in the game 6 loss to the Sixers.
The ACL injury normally sidelines a player for 6 to 8 months. If that is the case for Rose, the Bulls will have to commence the next season without their captain. Nothing can be said at the moment regarding the success of the operation
and the time it will take for Rose to recover.
