Chicago Cub eyeing Prince Fielder, Manager Dale Sveum denies -MLB Update
It is no kept secret that the Chicago Cubs are pushing for free-agent first baseman, Prince Fielder, with all the rumouring floating around the Major League Baseball (MLB) ever since the regular season ended the players were set into the market to be picked
up, but team manager, Dale Sveum, is in no mood to confirm the reports.
"It's a lot of media talk more than us doing anything," Sveum said. "We haven't had any talks with Prince, and I haven't had any conversations with him. (It's) more other people bringing this to the table."
From the latest reports from various media agencies around the nation, the Cubs are believed to be the frontrunners in the race to acquire the player, which could be quite a good fit on the Chicago roster that has been in need for a first baseman for some
time now.
"I think any team that wants to get better" will inquire on Fielder, his agent, Scott Boras, said in Dallas last week. "Whether they're a younger team or a veteran team or a team that wants to win now, there are not many teams not in need of a core player
like this. There's a few that aren't, obviously, but most are certainly going to want to look into the situation."
It is a well known fact that the Cubs do not have any significant power player on the first base at the moment who would be opening for them in the upcoming 2012 MLB regular season, making Fielder a valuable player in their eyes which they are not ready
to open up about anytime soon until something official comes out to surprise the media.
The 27-year-old first baseman is a career .282 hitter and has an average of 38 home runs in the past few seasons.
There are a number of other teams on the lookout for Prince Fielder, making the situation ever more interesting as the race gets tighter with clubs looking to settle down now more than ever and players wanting to secure the best contest and focus on relaxing
for the remaining offseason.
