Chicago Cubs' Anthony Rizzo acknowledges the recent slump – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs’ first baseman Anthony Rizzo admitted on Wednesday, August 22 that he is not feeling great at the plate. His statement came on a day when the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Cubs 3-2.
The player who maintained a wonderful .330 average last month has struggled a bit this month, especially in the series against the Brewers. He called it frustrating.
"I'm just not feeling that great at the plate," Rizzo said on Thursday as the Cubs were bracing themselves to take on the Milwaukee Brewers. . "There are pitches I could hit that I've kind of rolled over. It's frustrating, but it is what it is."
There were a lot of areas that he needed to address in his talk with the journalists. In particular, the fact that he has played more games this year than the previous season wherein he appeared in 49 games for the San Diego Padres.
The losing streaks are hardly an enjoyable thing for the first baseman who is being seen as one of the most potentially accomplished hitters out there. In a team that is rebuilding, his presence is a reassuring factor.
That is what he knows as he wants to come out of this slump as quickly as possible given the expectations attached to him and his ability to put things in order for the Chicago Cubs.
"This is the most I've played," he said. "Last year, I played in September, too, but I didn't really play. You have to keep staying turned on. It's fun coming to the park every day and competing. I'm not doing that great right now, but it's fun. I wouldn't say it's fun going through these [losing streaks]."
In August, it is important to remember, Rizzo maintained a .244 average which was way lower than he or even the team would have expected.
Thus, it is obviously clear, he wants to readjust and start hitting as he had previously been. The sooner he does, the better it is for the Chicago Cubs which want to have a better ending this season than the former seasons.
