Chicago Cubs' Bryan LaHair and Starlin Castro make it to All-Star Game - MLB News
The Chicago Cubs on Sunday, July 1, ended up with great elation as the two of their players got elected for the All-Star Game. Bryan LaHair and Starlin Castro made their names for the list at a time when there might not have been any hope.
However, the records of the two players clearly showed and served as evidence of their superiority in every aspect of the game. The decision of their inclusion was announced on Sunday as they will now make to the National League All-Star team.
The team manager Dale Sveum spoke of the reaction when the news became known to the Cubs’ players, especially to LaHair.
"It kind of caught him off-guard a little bit," Sveum said of LaHair, 29, who – like said earlier, might not have anticipated this. "That's what we live for in this game -- one of those special moments."
LaHair, it is pertinent to note, got 950,206 votes. He stood eighth in the fan balloting and second in player balloting. The latter, like the former, points to the acknowledgement of the talent that this player has come to acquire and exhibit.
Starlin Castro, on the other hand, was lucky to get his name enlisted for second consecutive year. The All-Star Game, scheduled for next week, will now figure prominently the two Cubs’ players with talent and skill.
"I'm happy for him because he's improving," Alfonso Soriano said. "He's a good player and consistent. That's the most important thing in the big leagues. You can do it for one year and the second year, you disappear. I'm happy for him because he's young, he's working hard and he's been consistent.”
Also, importantly in 2011, Castro was the youngest Cubs’ player to be picked up for the All-Star Game. With another milestone, the player is all set to bring more glory to the team, as well as elevate himself in the history of the team and the game.
When All-Star Game gets going next week, Castro will be one of the players to be closely watched by the experts and pundits of the game as well as fans.
