Chicago Cubs' Matt Garza to start on Sunday – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs have named Matt Garza to start the Sunday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The final of three-game series could well be either the last game, or one of the last games, of Matt Garza for the Cubs.
The Trade Deadline for this starter of the Chicago Cubs is only two weeks away now, prompting the club to look for more options. The Cubs could possibly face a paucity of accomplished starters, and even the said trade might not be a good decision.
However, the team general manager Jed Hoyer has a very different view. For many a general managers, the decision should have been delayed for an appropriate time. But he looks at it differently, emphasising the need of acquiring a more effective starter.
"It's not a position you want to be in. I think certainly there's ways you can improve the organization by being in that position, but it's frustrating because it means your record's not very good," Cubs' general manager Jed Hoyer said.
Hoyer added, “It also means the players being asked about are good players, and neither one of those [scenarios] is a positive. So when you're in this situation, you think you have to do the best thing for the organization and then you just hope that you're not there very often."
Matt Garza’s presence on the mound, as a quick look at his current season’s record suggests, has not been particularly good. In his last outing that came against the Atlanta Braves on July 5, Garza gave no less than five runs, which included three homers.
The team lost that game by 7-3. Since then, the Cubs have not brought Garza on the mound. However, Sunday’s encounter involving the Arizona Diamondbacks is a rare opportunity for Garza to reset things for him.
He certainly hopes this start will prove ultimately advantageous. The Cubs have a 2-0 lead in the series. Provided Matt Garza seals the third victory, thereby sweeping the series, he will stand a good chance of review. However, in the end it is the Cubs’ management that has to make the final decision.
