Chicago Cubs' manager all praise for the new outfielder Brett Jackson – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs' manager Dale Sveum on Sunday, August 5, praised the new outfielder Brett Jackson, saying the reason behind the player’s induction in the Majors was to evaluate him and get his development started.
"His OPS with those strikeouts is incredible," Sveum said. "The reason we decided to finally get him here is to evaluate him here and get his development started here at the big leagues and see what happens just to help us defensively and things like that."
Jackson comes in the Majors at a time when the Cubs are witnessing a new surge, fighting for a bigger slice and share in the Division. The club, which has not won any World Series for over nine decades, now is performing relatively well than the past years.
Jackson’s induction, among other youngsters, inspires hope not only for the team manager, but also the fans. The No.1 Draft pick in 2009 – being ranked as the Cubs’ top prospect, Jackson’s appearing in the Major Leagues is not surprising for anyone who knows him.
In his debut against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the outfielder remained 2-for-4, establishing evidence of the capability and potential that he holds. At Iowa, Jackson he maintained a .256 average with 15 homers and 22 doubles to his credit, hitting 12 triples in 106 games.
With the incredibly big opportunity that Jackson has now got to demonstrate his skill and talent, he vows to live up to the expectations of everyone with his performance.
"I knew how close I was and I pushed myself a little too hard to be here," Jackson said. "I'm here now, and I'm going to play my guts out and my heart out every day, that's the type of player I am and that's the type of player I'll always be."
More progress awaits him as he works with the Chicago Cubs' manager and the hitting coach James Rowson. As the second half of the season progresses, the Cubs will have a new outlook with younger players as they already have 11 of 25-man roster the ones who were not with the team on the Opening Day.
