Chicago Cubs' manager lends support to the club as season nears end – MLB News
Chicago Cubs' manager Dale Sveum threw his weight behind his players on Sunday, September 30 as he stated that he was satisfied with the work ethic that the Cubs have shown this season. Entering into Sunday’s finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Cubs had lost 99 games this season.
Mike Quade, who was the Cubs' former manager and wasa dismissed after the team’s embarrassingly poor show past year, losing over 90 games the past season. The Cubs have been exerting to avoid that fate in the current year as criticism and despair permeate the atmosphere.
However, Dale Sveum is discharging managerial responsibilities for the first time here and is not letting that despair take its toll. His focus, rather, is doing good enough in the years to come as the club is in its rebuilding phase.
"The good thing about baseball is every day is different," Sveum said. "For the most part, I've been in this game long enough to understand how this process works. I think patience is one of my good points. I do have a lot of patience and understand the process we're going through, and understood it at the beginning of the season.”
Also, Dale Sveum does not dismiss the possibility of facing the same circumstances next year as the team is full of young players now. With veteran players traded and young players inducted, the Cubs are an altogether different team now.
Be that as it may, disappointment is something that the Cubs’ manager is not willing to yield to. His focus rather is on seeking to improve and the players have shown tremendous preparedness and determination.
Sveum said, "Each day is different and you do your best each day and put your best lineup out there. The bottom line is the players, especially all the guys who have been here for the whole year, you feel bad for them.”
As the 2012 Major League Baseball season is almost coming to end for the Cubs, if there is anything that they can take pride in, among countless other things, it is their work ethic. That is what they aspire to continue and get enough from to transform into success.
