Chicago Cubs' newly added pitcher Scott Feldman hopes to have regular starts – MLB News

The Chicago Cubs seem to have achieved the target they had set for the offseason: Adding another pitcher – free agent Scott Feldman, to rotation on Tuesday, November 27. The one-year deal worth $6 million comes a few weeks after the Cubs had signed a contract with another free agent, Scott Baker.
Chicago Cubs' rotation did not see completion with demonstrative alacrity, though. It took a while largely because they want to add arms that are dependable; experience, agility, and speed characteristic of the pitchers.
Feldman so far has 204 appearances in Major League Baseball. Previously associated with the Texas Rangers, playing last eight seasons with the American League team, he had 101 starts along with 30 relief appearances.
The two make a good combination. However, herein Feldman hopes he will have more starts; something that the Cubs also intend. The experienced starter, along with the aforementioned four pitchers, will form a strong part of the Cubs’ pitching.
"That was definitely something I've wanted to do my whole career, and for them to give me the go-ahead on that and let me know that was in their plans from the get-go was something that immediately made me interested in coming here," Feldman said.
The Cubs will also be hoping to see a productive and solid season when it comes to this pitcher. 2009 remained a particularly successful season for Feldman wherein – having had 34 appearances, he held 17-8 record with 4.08 ERA.
That is what he wants to repeat as the Cubs' starter. Given the potential and experience, he is pretty much capable of achieving that.
"I'm pretty confident I can get back to that level of success," Feldman said. "That was the year when everything started clicking for me. It was the first time in my career I was getting regular work in the starting rotation and got into a groove.”
The past season saw a seemingly overworked or underworked pitching. The Cubs lost 101 games in the season. Although that was not described as a fiasco, the Cubs – however, will not want to see the repetition of it given the stakes involved this time round.
