Chicago Cubs’ Anthony Rizzo to remain at third – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs’ newly brought in third baseman Anthony Rizzo had 1-for-4 in Wednesday’s game against the New York Mets, with the team manager Dale Sveum saying he will keep batting third. The team had to bear a humiliating 17-1 loss in the game, but the position of Rizzo will remain unchanged for a while.
This comes as he went 2-for-4 in Tuesday’s game, demonstrating his ability and aptitude. If he maintains his consistency, he will be a prized treasure for the Cubs in the offence. Prior to coming to Major League Baseball this year, he had a record of .313 against the left-handers at Triple-A Iowa.
While there are a lot of considerations the team has to weigh, the Cubs' manager Dale Sveum wants some sense of stability in the line-up. That is where the focus currently lies. The future strategy shall be made keeping in mind the performance of the players.
"You want to get some stability in this lineup," Sveum said Wednesday. "You call people up who are going to be here a long time, you just want to leave them alone. [Starlin] Castro and [Rizzo], we'll see what happens.”
Dale Sveum also stressed the fact that he did not want to keep changing the positions. That, according to him, will lead to another problem which might not be a facile one to effectively handle.
Sveum said, “I don't want to keep moving things around, because then you can't protect this guy or that guy, and it snowballs into another problem. We're committed to this lineup and lefties will be what they are. Those two guys will be in the same spot from now on."
As Rizzo shall stay at third, it was Castro whom the former had replaced. Castro has had an impressive .311 batting average this season in the Number two spot in 24 games that he has played. All the same, in his 50-game appearance at third, Castro has managed a .296 average.
While both qualify to retain that spot, it is Rizzo who will be putting double efforts to stay afloat as all he has with him right now is his impressive record.
