Chicago Cubs’ Blake DeWitt happy with his decision – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs’ infielder Blake DeWitt on Thursday, February 23, expressed his happiness over his decision to avoid arbitration and be part of the Chicago Cubs. Although he is a non-roster invitee, DeWitt has reasons to be happy about the decision.
"I had a decision to make, and I'm extremely happy being here today," DeWitt said. "Driving out here, it was one of those things. I'm ready to get back on the field, ready to get back to playing. That's one of the things that I think was weird about the
whole situation.”
There have been ups and downs in his career as the Major League Baseball player. While he has tried his level best to consistently perform in the fiercely competitive atmosphere, challenges indeed have been too many to surmount.
The past season saw the infielder score with an average of .265 in the 121 games that he played, having had 230 at-bats. The player had five homers to his credit, with 26 RBIs. That might not have been satisfactory given the fact he could have done better.
However, there is a long way to go for the young player three years experience. He has played a total of 404 games so far, having scored 134 RBIs with an average of .260, maintaining a slugging percentage of .385.
The 40-man roster that DeWitt is part of expects him to perform outstandingly well this time considering the challenges that lie ahead. The building phase of the Cubs will see its culmination with possibly one big title.
DeWitt is kind of looking forward to it. “This time of year as a player, you're ready to get back on the field, and to not know where you're going to be was kind of strange."
If the practice session in Spring Training is anything to go by, the Cubs are exerting themselves to the hilt. This will enable them to be satisfactorily prepared once the season kicks off and to take on the team with ever more confidence in search of a
big title; something the club has not won for years now.
