Chicago Cubs’ Bryan LaHair fails to play the Opening Day game
baseman Bryan LaHair could not appear in the Opening Day game on Thursday, April 05, against the Washington Nationals. The player who was unable to play the last four Cactus League games due to tightness in his back does not seem fit enough to show up in
any game until Sunday.
The problems is said to be of bulging disc in his back which has rendered him unable to play for now. But a positive development on Thursday was his ability to have run and hit in the batting cage.
LaHair also spoke to the media on Thursday, speaking in great length about the problem he is undergoing, and the inability to play the Opening Day game against the Washington Nationals.
"It's just such a minor thing, but it is something I couldn't prevent -- it's like a nerve thing," said LaHair, who blamed an impingement for the pain in his back and leg. "The nerve settled down now and the pain is pretty much out, and now it's just getting
back into the feel of things. I should be back in there this weekend."
That which comes as something incredibly surprising and – at the same time, unsettling for the player is the fact that he has not been able to show up in even a single Opening Day game in the last five years.
The 29 year old player, nonetheless, wants to move forward instead of going backwards.
"I've been preparing myself mentally the past few days just to be ready," LaHair said. "The most important thing is to not go backwards, and keep going forward and keep getting better.”
In his absence, it will be Jeff Baker whom the Chicago Cubs will bring in to replace until the player is fully fit, and able to play. As to whether he will be an adequate substitute for LaHair is something that only time will tell.
LaHair has usually done well whenever he has played. It is for this matter that the team would like to have the player back in the team sooner than later.
