Chicago Cubs Bryan LaHair grappling with the recent downturn – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs Bryan LaHair said on Sunday, July 29, that he is trying to fix the problems he is facing lately as far as hitting is concerned. LaHair, who has recently been made right fielder, has problems hitting and scoring the way he previously used to.
For example, until last year when he was part of Triple-A Iowa, LaHair had driven in no less than 109 runs. But that prolificacy is no longer the trait of the hitter this year. His performance plummeting is something of a worry for himself.
"I'm in my own head a little bit, that's all," LaHair said. "That's a problem I've never had. I guess there's a first time for everything. I don't plan on this being a problem for the rest of my life, I know that."
Like earlier said, he has recently been made right fielder. He was previously playing as first baseman. The Cubs have promoted Anthony Rizzo to that position. While Rizzo continues to come up with amazing performance, LaHair has only witnessed a slump.
On Sunday, he was asked if changing position has impacted his performance. That might have had an impact, but the player realizes that he has to deal with it himself.
"Whatever it is, I just have to get it done," LaHair said. "At the end of the day, you have to get hits in those situations."
The Cubs have been faring well lately, thanks to a combination of skilful defence punctuated by equally good offence. It, therefore, is important for the Cubs’ hitter to contribute at this point in time.
All said, LaHair is well aware where things are not going right for him. "When I do get the opportunity, I'm not exactly getting a bunch of cookies to hit," said LaHair. "Then I give in and all of a sudden I'm out.”
LaHair is hitting .221 ever since he has been moved to the position of right field. That is something Bryan LaHair has to grapple with sooner than later. His overall average in the season, appearing in 87 regular games, is .267 with 14 homers and 31 RBIs to his credit.
