Chicago Cubs’ Bryan LaHair ready for action – MLB News
As the building phase for the Chicago Cubs expands and matures, Bryan LaHair is aspiring to live up to the expectations of the fans. LaHair, who is the Number one first baseman for the club, is all set to be part of the Chicago Cubs this year.
On Wednesday, February 22, the Pacific Coast League Most Valuable Player Award winner said he plans to work harder now, as he foresees a bigger future in the club. He has already got his name slated for the year’s Opening Day roster.
"It's a good feeling," LaHair said Wednesday. "I plan on working harder than I did before to keep it. I don't want this to be a one-year thing, I want it to be more than one. I want to be part of something and build toward something.”
LaHair got an opportunity to put on view the past year the talent he has in his possession. As his Minor League stats read impressively, he had a chance to represent the Cubs in 20 games last year, whereby he had a .288 average.
In the 65 games that he has played in his short career so far, his average stands at .262 with 16 RBIs to his credit.
Since the Chicago Cubs have all the flavours this time round to surprise the critics, the player knows the importance of being with the Chicago Cubs at this point in time. From the reshuffling of the frontline office to the strong 40-man roster, everything
goes in the Cubs’ favour.
"This is probably, right now, the best franchise in all of sports as far as wanting to win," he said. "This is the place to do it if you're going to do it, so it's definitely a great opportunity."
LaHair has never taken break all this while as he represented Magallanes in Venezuela, with an average of .272 in 47 games. He had 15 homers and 29 RBIs to his credit with the end of 2011 regular season. It now remains to be seen how he performs this year
given the expectations attached to him.
