Chicago Cubs’ Dale Sveum admits to his lack of patience in Wednesday’s ejection – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs' manager Dale Sveum on Thursday, September 6, acknowledged it was an unusual lack of patience that led to his Wednesday’s ejection from the game against the Washington Nationals. It was home-plate umpire Larry Vanover who took the decision of ejecting Sveum from the dugout.
The matter had flared up when with no outs and Washington Nationals' runner on first base, Michael Morse took a ball from the starter Chris Volstad. The argument came afterward when Sveum faced Vanover.
It was crew chief and first base umpire Jerry Lane whose intervention did not things flare up to a greater extent. That was something seemingly unavoidable, but the team manager admitted there was a lack of patience as well.
"Sometimes it takes a lot for me to get worked up about something," Sveum said Thursday. "As far as team-wise, it's a matter of, I am a very patient guy. That's one thing I got going for me. But I'm not going to lie to you, patience can only go so far sometimes, too."
The Cubs could not maintain their grip on the game since the start and lost to the Washington Nationals 9-1. While the defeat dealt another blow to the Cubs, Dale Sveum was observing everything quite closely.
Sveum, nonetheless, shared his other musings on the matter as well.
"You do snap, and usually when I do it, not too many people are going to see it except maybe the individual," Sveum said. "You try not to have too many team meetings because if you have too many, then you know you're not a very good team."
Cubs will have a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates starting from Friday, September 7. That will provide them an opportunity to get past that incident and focus on the series against the Pirates.
The series will surely be a tough one for the Chicago Cubs given the inability to show any resistance to the Washington Nationals in the recently concluded series that they lost. The Nationals, at the same time, are now a tough contender for the post-season spot as the regular season nears an end.
