Chicago Cubs’ Dale Sveum gets support from his New York Yankees' counterpart – MLB News
As Dale Sveum became the manager of the Chicago Cubs, the challenges he has to confront ahead are numerous. On Saturday, the New York Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi stated that Sveum understood the Cubs’ culture well so he could lead them.
Girardi maintained that since Sveum has served in a different capacity in different teams, he had the opportunity now to show the best side of his coaching career. However, his emphasis was that Sveum knew the Cubs’ culture well.
"I think he understands the Cubs' culture as much as he can as being a visiting player, or visiting coach, because he's been part of it in a sense that Milwaukee plays the Cubs 15 times a year, so he has a chance to see it," Girardi said.
It is worthwhile to recall that Sveum had served in the Milwaukee Brewers as hitting coach, took responsibility as third-base coach in the Boston Red Sox and now he will formally be charged with leading the Chicago Cubs.
"There's things that I had to learn as a manager that you go through, but it's a pretty quick learning curve and you get thrown into it really quickly and you do the best that you can,” Girardi said.
The Chicago Cubs have recently had a big change in their management. From the president of baseball operations Theo Epstein to Jed Hoyer who came as the general manager, the arrival of Dale Sveum as the manager bodes well for the club.
However, the biggest difficulty lies in inspiriting a team which has not won any title for decades now. If anything, this year’s performance in Major League Baseball was below average as the Chicago Cubs lost around 90 of their games.
Sveum’s presence in the Chicago Cubs, so believe the experts and the observers of the game, will bring in some new energy and gusto into the team. This will enable them to regain their confidence to take on the rival teams and win games so as to remain a
side to reckon with.
