Chicago Cubs’ Jeff Samardzija looking forward to Monday’s opener against Houston Astros – MLB News
A few days after he had a tough day on the mound, the Chicago Cubs' starter Jeff Samardzija said on Sunday, August 12 that he is looking forward to the game against the Houston Astros. Jeff Samardzija is scheduled to start Monday against the Astros.
With 7-10 record this season, having 4.21 ERA in 23 starts, Samardzija could not quite hold sway in Wednesday’s game against the San Diego Padres wherein he gave up two runs, taking the loss in the encounter.
Moments after, Samardzija was seen letting out his frustration, breaking his bat after striking-out in the seventh, a view that would have surprised a lot of fans and spectators. Nonetheless, Samardzija had his perspective to offer.
"Any time you're a young guy and your manager lets you pitch around a hit and pitch around a walk, and you see those pitches up in the 100 count, those are times you want to prove to your manager you can pitch and have your stuff," Samardzija said. "I felt great there with my pitch count what it was. You take more pride when they leave you out there, and you want them to remember that you pitched well for the future."
The team manager Dale Sveum, on the other hand, came to defend the starter, citing the overall inability of the team to capitalise on the opportunities that came their way.
"He had pitched a great game. You're hoping for a double play, and he has a chance for a win. We just couldn't get anything going."
The Chicago Cubs are fifth in the National League Central, a few games ahead of the Houston Astros. What is disconcerting for them is the fact that they have lost 11 of last 12 games. The Cubs will definitely try to end this streak.
Monday’s game against the Houston Astros will be closely watched, as the Chicago Cubs are expected to regain their magical touch exhibited before this game-losing streak. They are seeking to end the season with a comparatively better record that the one in previous season.
