Chicago Cubs Ryan Dempster yet to make a decision on Trade Deadline – MLB News
As the Trade Deadline approaches for the Chicago Cubs’ ace Ryan Dempster, he said on Tuesday, July 24, that he would take his time before making a final decision about it. The July 31 deadline has already stirred a debate and speculation about the next possible move of the Cubs’ starter.
So far, it is the name of Atlanta Braves that has come forward, showing interest in trading the starter. However, whatever the conclusion made by the Cubs and the final decision, it is Dempster himself who has the right to veto the trade, if need arises.
But Dempster has not given any hint as to which path he wants to tread now. "I want to look everything over first before I make a decision, and I've got time to do that," Dempster said while commenting on the issue. "There's a week before the Trade Deadline."
Like stated earlier, whatever the Cubs’ decision, Dempster has the choice to decide whatever he deems is right.
"The Chicago Cubs are going to do what's best for the Cubs," Dempster said, "and I have a chance to do what's best for me, and I'm going to try to do that."
For now, there is nothing official even if the Braves have reportedly made the offer. Both the Cubs and the starter himself are quiet on the issue.
Dempster will have a start against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the series-finale on Wednesday. "Right now, he's a Chicago Cub and he's pitching tomorrow, and we'll do everything we can to win tomorrow's game," Chicago Cubs' manager Dale Sveum said.
If the Braves decide to go ahead with the trade, the Cubs shall have the 22-year-old Randall Delgado as their pitcher, trading Dempster to the former. The 35-year-old Dempster, nonetheless – like said earlier, will make his own decision.
What has clearly set Dempster apart this season is being the leading starter with 2.11 in the National League. At a time when the Cubs were not performing well, his being in the rotation – it goes without saying, played an extraordinarily important role in strengthening the team’s defence.
