Chicago Cubs’ Starlin Castro aims at getting Gold Glove
The Chicago Cubs All-Star shortstop Starlin Castro said on Sunday, April 01, that he aims to get Gold Glove, something he is working on with diligence. Castro hoped this will be the season when he gets the Gold Glove.
"Gold Glove -- that's what I want," Castro said. "That's what I'm working on. I'm going to try to get a Gold Glove this year for sure."
He has the two seasons with the striking .300 batting average, proving his effectiveness and instrumentality as the talented shortstop for the team. Castro, who turned 22 the past month, has the capability to do the impossible.
Because this player excels in almost everything he has been tried, the team manager Dale Sveum has high regard for him.
"He's got a great arm," Sveum said. "You don't need to speed that arm up with feet being too fast. That gets a lot of young guys in trouble. He's been very, very receptive of everything I've asked him to do."
He led the National League in hitting the past season. Among other things, he batted .327 in 72 games as the leadoff man. Other than that, he retained .335 in 42 games in the No.2 hole. Similarly, in the No. 3 spot, he had the .225 in 42 games.
With multiple positions that he has played, Castro has proven his choice right. It is for this reason that the Chicago Cubs look with the confidence and hope to play as effectively in the coming season.
As for the player himself, with the207 hits that he led the National League the past year, Castro hopes to repeat it in 2012 too. "I want to do that every year -- Gold Glove, 200 hits, All-Star Game again," he said.
Judging from the performance and consistency of this player, Castro indeed has the capability to do all that he aims. The competitive spirit that he holds will enable him to come down hard on the rivals, rising to the challenge and occasion to bring about
the victories that the Cubs are looking forward this year with more enthusiasm.
