Chicago Cubs’ Theo Epstein plans to introduce rookie development program – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs president of baseball operations has said that he plans to start a rookie development program designed to inculcate the professionalism that pertains to representing a club.
His announcement at a time as the short-stop of the team, Starlin Castro is surrounded by the allegation of having sexually assaulted a woman. The case that has made big headlines lately had occurred in September last year where a woman alleged the 21-year-old
player of sexually assaulting her.
Although the attorney of the young player calls the accusation ‘baseless’, Castro has already been questioned by the police. No charge, however, has officially been made yet.
However, it is important for Theo Epstein is to avoid such incidents in the future. For this, he has the plans of introducing the rookie development program.
“When you have a lot of young players at the big league level," Epstein said, "Oftentimes you forget just how new they are to this whole thing -- professional baseball, the responsibility that comes with it, the importance of representing the organization
the right way [and] being a good teammate.”
The talented 21-year-old player had made his mark only last year with 158 games that he played with a .307 average. Having made his debut in 2010, the player remained sixth in the National League batting average with .307 average, 66 RBIs with 91 runs and
no less than 10 homers to his credit.
Having risen to prominence, however, he has followed with an incident that will hugely impact the career of this player.
Theo Epstein realises this and said, "Organizations that just assume that they'll figure it out on their own make a big mistake.”
Castro will definitely hope that this phase passes and his innocence proven at the end. In the case that this does not happen, it will greatly influence the career of this talented player who is still young and has a long way to go. The Cubs will be hoping
that Epstein’s rookie development plan can help avoid unnecessary issues and provide guidance to young players on the professionalism that is required at this level.http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/30450/starlin-castro
