Chicago Cubs a more ‘dynamic offensive team’: Dale Sveum – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum on Thursday, July 5, stated that his club has become a more dynamic offensive team after the induction of Anthony Rizzo. The third baseman was promoted to this position on June 26, and since then he has not looked back.
As the season is progressing, there is more improvement that can be seen in Rizzo. Having had a record of 5-for-12, Rizzo already has two homers to his credit, charging up the offence with remarkable force.
That obviously has added a palpable dynamism in the team, allowing it to manoeuvre more skilfully and confidently. The team manager testified to this obvious change when he spoke of Anthony Rizzo.
"I'd be lying if I said I didn't," Sveum said Thursday. "It's obviously a more dynamic offensive team. We're getting to that plateau a little more of scoring four or more runs in a game, which gives you a heck of a lot better chance."
What cannot go unnoticed, ever since the promotion of Anthony Rizzo, is the fact that the team is doing extraordinarily well now. For instance, since his arrival, the team has won six out of eight games, losing only two.
Sveum was asked how the outlook of the team would be if Rizzo were here. The team manager did not indulge in any speculation and came up with a straightforward answer, saying baseball works differently.
"Sure you think about [what might have been]," Sveum said. "You think about what if [Luis] Valbuena was here all year, being able to produce like he has and the defense he has. You think, but that's not how baseball works."
The Cubs now have an impressive 5.4 runs average in every winning game. While it is undeniable that the first half of the season has not gone the way they might have expected, the recent improvement will help to a considerable degree to revitalise team spirit.
Cubs hope they will be a force to reckon with in the upcoming games given the renewed energy visible in both offence and defence, allowing them to overcome their rivals.
