Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox to talk contract compensation – MLB News
After the Chicago Cubs signed a contract with the Boston Red Sox to hire their president of baseball operations, there are reports that they are still talking about compensation. The discussion of compensation comes in the aftermath of Theo Epstein joining
the Chicago Cubs when one year of his contract was remaining.
Initially they had stated that they will resolve the issue soon. However, the talks got lengthy and there is no word as to what the result of those talks resolved. The whole process, so the reports suggest, may be completed this week provided things go as
planned.
"We haven't made a ton of progress," the Chicago Cubs’ president of baseball operations Epstein said.
What is important at the moment, for both the teams is the selection of the managers for the respective teams. Both the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs do not currently have any manager after Terry Francona and Mike Quade are no longer parts of the team.
Epstein is, for now, not willing to disclose any name for the candidate who may lead the Chicago Cubs as manager. Selection of this position, for both the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs, is a choice that is different and will take time.
"It's the responsibility for us to get the right person for the Cubs and for [Red Sox GM] Ben [Cherington] to get the right person for the Red Sox," Epstein said. "I'm not sure that will be the same person. Different markets, the organizations are in different
places now, different personnel, different front offices."
Boston Red Sox saw a great change in management after the outcome of the regular season in 2011 as the team failed to make it to the playoffs. All the same, Cubs did not have a good performance either during the regular season.
With the search for a new manager on, it remains to be seen how the Cubs and Boston Red Sox sort out the remaining contractual pros and cons especially after Theo Epstein joined the Cubs to put them on a new track to hopefully have a more successful 2012
season.
