Chicago Cubs’ apparently unmoved by the trade rumours – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs’ manager Dale Sveum on Tuesday, July 17, termed the increasing buzz and whisper about Ryan Dempster and Matt Garza’s possible departure as rumours. The two players are to become free-agents soon, prompting the rumours about their changing teams.
The two pitchers almost form the backbone of the Chicago Cubs’ defence. Were they go, it will deal a huge blow to the Cubs. The team has witnessed some resurgence with good performances.
As the rumours swirled, the team manager dismissed them, saying the team does not dwell on any such rumours.
"Everything's still rumors," Sveum said. "I've been in these situations and there's so many rumors and then [the Trade Deadline] gets there and nothing ends up happening. In our world, we don't dwell on it, we know it's a reality.”
Although challenges are quite likely to multiply and impact the team tremendously, the Chicago Cubs manager is prepared to deal with them. Any eventuality, which even involves the players changing the team, is to be dealt with accordingly.
Therefore, the Cubs' manager is already looking ahead for what could be done should the players really go.
Sveum said, “There's nothing you can do about it, and yeah, if we did lose a couple pieces of this puzzle, it'd be devastating to the team, but that's part of the game, part of building the organization. It's unfortunate, but that's the way it is. You don't dwell on it until it happens."
Even the players are all ready to see the change because they deem it as inevitable and normal. If Albert Pujols can, after a decade of affiliation, change his team, then other players have no issue doing the same.
Nonetheless, the Chicago Cubs’ focus for now is doing their bid to perform and fare better in the season. The lacklustre performance that has characterised the Chicago Cubs has changed a little this year with an otherwise laudable display on the field.
Whether the Cubs manage to continue it or not is something that remains to be seen in the second half of the season as every team aspires to outrival the other.
