Chicago Cubs ask permission to talk to Chris Bosio – MLB News
As the Chicago Cubs’ new manager Dale Sveum took charge, he has already started prioritising matters relating to the club. The first assignment that he wants to execute on the urgent basis is to interview the coaches for his staff.
He has formally sought permission for interviewing the former Milwaukee Brewers player and an ex-teammate, Chris Bosio. He will be interviewed, provided Sveum gets permission, for pitching coach.
The reports suggest that the Cubs have also asked permission to talk to him. When the question was put to the general manager of the Milwaukee Brewers, Doug Melvin, he confirmed that there has been a request in this regard.
"That's the only person they've asked to talk to," Brewers’ GM Doug Melvin said.
From 1986 till 1991, both Dale Sveum and Bosio remained team-mates in the Milwaukee Brewers. Interestingly and that is why the permission holds importance, both in 2009 as they have served as coaches for the Milwaukee Brewers.
Bosio was named this year to be the pitching coach of the Triple-A Nashville. The fact that he has experience in the field makes him all set for the new responsibility. In his career, Bosio had maintained a 3.96 ERA with 1,059 strike-outs. He had won a total
of 94 games, losing 93.
Chris’ career as a pitching coach started only when he announced his retirement from Major League Baseball. All the same, he had a special assignment as a pitching coach in the Seattle Mariners back in 1998 to 2002.
What brought limelight to him and his career as a pitching coach was being the coach of Tacoma Rainiers when his team had the lowest ERA in the Triple-A title in the Pacific Coast League. From there, he has never looked back.
When the Chicago Cubs obtain the permission to talk to Bosio, it will be interesting to see what the end result of the whole interview is. Given the fact that Bosio and Sveum have remained team-mates, his decision to join, or be asked to join, the club will
have good impact on the team as a whole.
