Chicago Cubs beat the Colorado Rockies by 10-8
The Chicago Cubs had a wonderful resilience to exhibit on Friday, March 23, as they beat the Colorado Rockies by 10-8. Although the starter Jeff Samardzija could not quite get hold of the Rockies’ hitters, the bullpen played a vital role in bringing back
the Cubs in the game, and giving it the much-need and morale-boosting victory.
Samardzija went for a 4-inning spell whereby he gave up 10 hits and 7 runs, all of which were earned runs. That was not the kind of performance he might have envisioned. But the starter had his reasons to offer for why things did not go his way in the Friday’s
game.
"The ball was up all day," Samardzija said. "Against this team, they're pretty free swinging and I'm a power pitcher. If I'm down in the zone, it turns into quick outs. If not, you see a cutter there, it gets fisted out, it gets over second base, things
like that. Those balls are down, they're ground balls and you're moving on. I need to make a quicker adjustment. It's just a couple pitches here or there to improve on."
Compared to him, on the other hand, Tyler Chatwood of the Rockies was taken to task by the Chicago Cubs hitters who did not spare the starter’s supposedly vulnerable pitches. Chatwood gave up no less than 9 runs in the 4.1 innings that he pitched, 7 of which
were earned runs.
Geovany Soto and Bryan LaHair of the Chicago cubs had 3 at-bats, scoring 3 runs in the 3 massive hits that they had while Marlon Byrd had 2 runs to his score in his 3 at-bats. Starlin Castro,  and Joe Mather had a run each.
Dexter Flower of the Rockies scored 2 runs while Carlos Gonzalez, Eric Young, Chris Nelson, Ramon Hernandez, Casey Blake and Tyler Colvin had a run each to score against the Cubs.
Casey Coleman of the Cubs came as reliever, allowing a run in his 3 innings while the closer Manny Corpas allowed no hit or run his strong 9th inning, bringing the emphatic victory for the Chicago Cubs over the Colorado Rockies.
