Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 8-0 – MLB Update
The Chicago Cubs regained their form back on Thursday, April 12, to beat the Milwaukee Brewers by 8-0. The game which was predominated by the starter Matt Garza also resulted in breaking the three-game winning streak of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Garza, who was facing Zack Greinke in Thursday’s game as his rival starter, remained virtually unhittable. Throwing just over eight innings, Garza allowed only three-hit ball to finish off the game with an emphatic win for the Cubs.
The Chicago Cubs made tremendous use of the third inning when the offence saw its incredible spark, gleaning no less than six runs. Reed Johnson, Darwin Barney, Starlin Castro, and Ian Stewart scored a RBI single each coupled with the two-run double that Alfonso Soriano scored. The rookie backup catcher Steve Clevenger had a total of three hits in the game with leadoff doubles in the third and fourth inning.
Since the start of the new season, the Cubs had not scored more than five runs in a game. Thursday’s game was special in that it was an encounter that saw the team’s offence performing extraordinarily well against one of the best pitchers, Zack Greinke, of the league. He had not lost any game in more than a year with such a big margine.
"A lot of good approaches," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. "Got a lot of good pitches, made Greinke get the ball up, and we took advantage of all the mistakes he made."
The Brewers manager, Ron Roenicke, was having a close eye on both the starters.
"After the first two innings keeping the ball down low, he started elevating his pitches," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "I know they didn't continue to hit the ball that hard, but everything fell apart and everything was placed perfectly."
As for Garza, he is the one who likes to finish anything that he starts. "When I start something, I intend to finish. I was one out away," Garza said. "We won, that's the plus side."
The Milwaukee Brewers, who had remained dominant in the four-game series here, could not quite maintain their hold.
