Chicago Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts hope Theo Epstein will bring glory to club – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs’ chairman Tom Ricketts has expressed his hope that the Theo Epstein era will bring success that the club is looking for over a considerably long period of time. Confronted with the tougher task that Epstein had in the Boston Red Sox, Chicago
Cubs post a challenge that Epstein, having got the owner and team’s confidence, can effectively handle.
If there is anything that the Chicago Cubs will have awaited anxiously and eagerly, it is to win the World Series title. The last time they did it was back in 1908. A century later, they are still struggling to win that illustrious glory to satiate the fans.
Tom Ricketts recalled how replacing the former general manager Jim Hendry was in itself a big task. While there was a list of big names in front of him, the general consensus at the end was to pick Theo Epstein.
"At the end of that process, Theo's name was the one name that kept coming up, and it was just the obvious choice for us," Ricketts said.
When Theo Epstein assumed the responsibility of general manager in the Boston Red Sox, the club had not won the World Series title for 86 years. Off he came and signed contracts with the players that enabled the Red Sox to win the World Series title in 2004,
after almost 9 decades.
It was this extraordinary achievement in the Boston Red Sox that imbues the Cubs with the confidence that Epstein will attain such an accomplishment here as well.
"It was my gut feeling that after everything he's accomplished in Boston, this would be the next great challenge for him, so we just had to go with the gut and hope it would come through," Ricketts said about calling the Red Sox for permission to talk to
Epstein.”
With the massive changes that have recently swept the Chicago Cubs, with the inclusion of a number of players and filling of coaching staff, the Cubs are bracing themselves for one of the most exciting season in 2012, something that may herald the great
victory in the World Series for Chicago.
