Chicago Cubs crush Milwaukee Brewers 8-2 – MLB Recap
The Chicago Cubs crushed the Milwaukee Brewers with a hefty margin of 8-2 in the final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, May 13, at Miller Park, Milwaukee in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The series was already won by the Brewers, but still this game proved a morale booster for the Cubs who now will try to match the 2011 World Series Champions St. Louis Cardinals in their next two-game encounter from Wednesday, May 16.
Third base Ian Stewart played a key role for his team’s win with his go ahead homer in the fifth innings which eventually proved the winning factor for the Cubs’ who thrashed eight runs later in the fourth innings.
"They've kind of had our number here. You've got to give their lineup some kudos. They batted and made me throw a lot of pitches and kept fouling balls off. I felt all right. It was just one of those outings, we had to make some pitches and we had to work.” Cubs' starter Jeff Samardzija said of his team’s win.
Starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija also played well and in five innings, he gave three hits and one run.
Later the Cubs manager Dale Sveum said for his tremendous pitching, "He pitched well numbers-wise, but the ball was up, you could tell it wasn't coming out of his hand like it can. It was time to pinch-hit, time to take a shot. Woody was really sharp, He did a great job."
The game started with high pace as the Brewers’ first baseman Taylor Green scored the first run from his side in the fourth inning. While later in fifth and until end, the Cubs rallied the Brewers with nine runs’ hammering and never allowed them to bounce back at any stage.
The game ended with a bitter thrashing of Cubs who previously lost two consecutive games from the Milwaukee Brewers.
In the meanwhile, the Cubs are currently at bottom in the National League Central division and if they able to defeat the Cardinals in the next matchup, their winning percentage of .412 will increase towards better beginning.
