Chicago Cubs defeat Colorado Rockies 6-3 – MLB Recap
Chicago Cubs defeated the Colorado Rockies 6-3 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, May 15 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
"I don't want to come out of these games, it's not my choice. I'd like to keep going and see if I can continue to give the team a chance,” Garland said.
The Cubs played wonderfully and showed the Rockies their true offensive class. They played really well and rattled the Rockies from start of the game.
Cubs’ pitchers and batters played wonderfully throughout the game and won in style. They never allowed their opponents to play freely and won with quite ease.
Jeff Samardzija started the game for the Cubs. He pitched eight solid innings and allowed two runs on five hits. He received one homer and struck out seven on his 3.49 ERA.
“I need to slow down around the bases and enjoy it a little bit. It doesn't happen too often. We work a lot in hitting. (Pitching coach Chris) Bosio has us hitting out there every day in the cages. It's an important at-bat, You just can't accept the out
as a pitcher. It's the same out as every other. You roll the lineup over and get the top coming up," Samardzija said.
Relief pitcher Kevin Gregg pitched 0.2 innings and allowed one run on two hits. He also pitched in right areas and proved one of the winning factors for the Cubs.
Along with pitchers, the Cubs’ batters also performed well on the plate and scored on consistent bases.
Centre fielder David DeJesus scored two runs on two hits. He ran for an RBI and remained consistent on his .516 slugging percentage.
Shortstop Starlin Castro scored one run on two hits. He ran for one RBI and remained consistent on his .406 slugging percentage.
On the other hand, the Rockies batters and pitchers could not play well and lost bitterly in the end. Especially the Rockies pitchers were hammered by the Cubs as they could not settle on the mound during the entire game.
Jon Garland pitched five solid innings for the Rockies and received seven hits. He allowed three runs and three earned runs on 4.89 ERA.
