Chicago Cubs defeat San Diego Padres 11-7 – MLB Recap
Chicago Cubs ended their 12-game losing streak as they defeated the San Diego Padres 11-7 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, May 28 at Wrigley Field in 2012 Major League Baseball season and regained some lost pride.
"It's a big relief, It shows you sometimes how tough it is to win a major league baseball game." Cubs manager Dale Sveum said in detail about the relief after getting a perfect win.
Left fielder Alfonso Soriano played well for the Cubs and made two runs on his four at bats.
"I think now everybody is more relaxed," Soriano said. "Now we have to keep doing our jobs and win some games. We have to turn it around. You have to believe in this team because we're not that bad."
Third base Ian Stewart also played a key role in the Cubs’ win. Later he said on his performance, “We haven't had a game like that in a while where we have a lot of guys break out and get multiple hits, driving the ball, Losing that many in a row was getting old.”
The real problem San Diego witnessed when their all three upfront pitchers were hammered by the Cubs’ batting offence.
Jeff Suppan was struck with six hits and six runs. He proved real damage to his team’s loss as he was also hit with two home runs.
Relief pitcher Alex Hinshaw finished giving two hits and two runs along with two earned runs.
Later the Padres’ closer Luke Gregerson came to pitch the seventh and was hit with three runs and four hits along with three earned runs.
All these three pitchers proved no good and in the end could not stop the Cubs who took the game away in the ninth.
In the meanwhile, though this defeat does not affect the Padres’ overall standings, but certainly this win is a big morale booster for the Cubs who were losing badly since Tuesday, May 15.
They are at bottom in the National League Central Division with 16-32 win-loss record along with .333 winning percentage.
