Chicago Cubs defeat San Diego Padres 5-3 – MLB Update
The Chicago Cubs defeated the San Diego Padres 5-3 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, May 29 at Wrigley Field, Chicago in 2012 Major League Baseball season and won a second straight game after a long skid.
Starter Jeff Samardzija played wonderfully and struck out eight Padres batters. His 7.0 innings’ spell received eight hits while he gave three runs and three earned runs.
The whole management was quite happy on Samardzija performance as he alone held the Padres with great force and never allowed them any easy plays throughout the game.
"You don't want to pitch bad and go outside and see your bobblehead smashed all over the place, I wanted to just keep the game close and hopefully people will go put them in their room instead of the trash." Samardzija said.
Closer James Russell also played a handy role in the Cubs’ win. He finished his 0.2 innings spell receiving only one hit. Striking out two Padres batters, Russell proved his game and eventually earned a great win for the Cubs.
“I still got a little more work to do to get up to his level. Once you get two outs, everybody starts getting up and that's when the juices really start to kick in, You've just got to kind of calm yourself down and not get caught in the moment, remember
that you've just got to make pitches." said Russell after the game.
On the other hand, Padres starter Eric Stults was hammered by the Cubs’ upfront batting lineup. Though he had good last couple of games but this game proved real disaster for him as well as for his team. He was not only hammered with four important runs
but he also revived seven hits and four earned runs which eventually proved fatal as the Padres fell short in the ninth losing in bitter despair.
In the meanwhile, this is a very good sign for the Cubs’ who are recovering quickly from the bad patch of losing 12 games in a row.
They are currently holding the 17-32 win loss record, but if they kept their spirit high, their record will definitely improve towards more excellence.
