Chicago Cubs defeated by San Diego Padres 2-4 – MLB Recap
Chicago Cubs defeated by the San Diego Padres 2-4 in the final and fourth game of their four-match series on Thursday, May 02 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Though the result of the four-match series remained equal with 2-2 but overall this particular series showed Cubs’ vulnerability in their field.
"It's a ball that I felt I should've caught, It's a matter of just that extra second of maybe Barney recognizing it and either calling me off or him being able to get out of the way. I felt like at the speed I was going in at, I would have been able to catch
it if I wouldn't have seen him still there,” Julio Borbon said.
He added, “He said that if he would've picked up the ball a 10th of a second earlier, he would've been able to call me off and maybe I'm veering off to the side."
Both the games, which Cubs’ won were narrow encounters but at the same time, the games won by the Padres’ showed total domination of pitching and hitting prowess.
The Padres’ offensive hitters never let the Cubs pitchers to settle during the entire game and eventually rattled them with big margin.
Along with good hitters, the Padres’ pitchers also had a wonderful outing against the Cubs. Eric Stults started the game for the Padres and pitched over six solid innings. He allowed two runs and two earned runs on seven hits. He struck out four and maintained
his 5.08 ERA.
Padres’ hitters also showed great resilience on the plate and scored runs on consistent bases. They hit in right areas and gradually moved towards a terrific victory.
On the other hand, the Cubs’ pitchers could not play well and lost the game in the end. Travis Wood started the game for the Cubs and pitched 7.2 innings and allowed three runs and four hits. He allowed two earned runs and struck out 2.50 ERA. The Cubs’
hitters meanwhile, failed totally and lost the game with bitter humiliation.
Only catcher Wellington Castillo showed little resilience on the plate. He scored one run on two hits. He batted four times and remained consistent on his slugging percentage of .432.
