Chicago Cubs extend Randy Bush’s contract for three years – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs on Tuesday, October 23, announced to extend the contract of assistant general manager Randy Bush for three years. With front-office changes that were expected, this is one of the biggest that the Cubs announced.
He came to take charge as assistant general manager as Theo Epstein became the president of baseball operations for the Chicago Cubs. On Friday, Epstein will also be celebrating the first anniversary of becoming part of the Cubs.
Other front-office development is that Mark O'Neal, the Cubs' athletic trainer since 2004, will stay with the team. Louie Eljaua will serve as the special assistant to the general manager and director international scouting.
Apart from the front-office changes, moves in line-up is also likely. The Cubs for now are looking for two pitchers to strengthen the rotation.
Cubs did not have an impressive season this year, losing over 100 games. That was something that might not have been anticipated. However, with the changes that swept the Cubs, especially the trade of veteran players and bringing young players, there were bound to be an entirely different outlook as far as the results are concerned.
The fact that the Cubs lost 101 games is something that they do not want to repeat in the year to come. Getting out from that position is an aim that the Cubs are currently following.
"I also wake up every day and recognize we lost 101 games and understand how painful that was for everybody, including me, and that provides further motivation to get out of this position that we're in," he said. "I think there were a lot of positives.”
He added, “That core, at least in my mind, went from one player to half a dozen, and if we can do that again in 2013, and we look up and we have close to a dozen players in our core, I'll feel great about the overall health of the organization.”
It will be interesting to see how the changes made lately will affect the team when it descends on the ballpark to start the 2013 Major League Baseball season.
