Chicago Cubs forerunners to land free agent player Prince Fielder – MLB Update
With highly rated free agents Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson signing up with the Los Angeles Angels on hefty contracts, the Chicago Cubs are now becoming the forerunners in landing Milwaukee Brewers’ free agent player Prince Fielder on a contract that is
believed to be enticing. This was confirmed by Scott Boras, Prince’s agent.
Boras asserted that he has varying offers for Fielder and all of them are considerable. It will now be up to the player to decide which franchise he wants to represent next, after making his mark as a quality hitter with the Brewers. In his late 20s, time
is on Fielder’s side to sign a long-term lucrative contract and thus continue with his dominance from the plate.
Fielder was appointed National League All-Star home-run derby captain this past season. His performance for Milwaukee was also impressive and this was evident from the fact the team barely missed out on a World Series appearance, losing to St. Louis Cardinals
in the NL Championship Series.
Boras stressed that the process of choosing the best team will begin when he meets up with Fielder later this week.
“I’m going to be leaving here and going to meet with Prince to talk about the varying opportunities there are for him," Boras said. "Then we will sit down and begin the process of letting teams know what direction he wants to take. He will kind of prioritize
it for me.”
The Cubs seem to be the most likely destination for Fielder for the simple reason that they have a lot of flexibility in their payroll for the next season, at least. If the Cubs do manage to land this star player, they are surely up for grabs at the next
season’s postseason stage, something that the team has been vying for long time now.
Boras is now out to make Fielder at least the third richest player in the history of baseball, behind Alex Rodriguez and Albert Pujols and rest assured, the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Angels will not be in a position to land Fielder. In this scenario,
the Cubs stand out to be the most logical choice.
