Chicago Cubs get good news on Matt Garza - MLB Update
Chicago Cubs are getting good news as their starting pitcher Matt Garza is getting better day by day. Garza’s last season was ended by a stress reaction in his right elbow and is now preparing hard for a successful return in the coming Major League Baseball
season.
"We went to 75 (feet) yesterday for the second day, Twenty throws. No pain. Good action. I'm pushing to try to speed it up, but they have me on a real set pace right now. It's going real good," Garza said on his recovery and his chances to play a vital role
for his team.
He previously had also discussed his injury and recovery process as he said, “My elbow was fine in December when I first started throwing, I wouldn’t have started if it wasn’t okay. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise, 24 days without throwing is more time
for it to rest. So it’s kind of a bonus, but not the bonus I wanted.”
Despite the fact that he could not finish the season on a high note but still he was able to achieve consistent numbers of 3.91 ERA along with 5-7 win-loss record, 96 strike-outs and 1.18 WHIP.
It is a very good sign that the Cubs’ starting pitcher is getting better. However, even if Garza takes extra time to return on the mound, the Cubs will have to rely on their other senior starters including Scott Baker, Scott Feldman and Edwin Jackson.
All three of these starters know their game very well and according to few Major League experts, these three will certainly carry forward the team’s burden in the coming season.
Scott Baker, who has seven years of league experience, is considered one of the very best starters of the league. His career ERA is quite consistent at 4.15 along with a 63-48 win-loss record, 770 strike-outs and 1.26 WHIP.
Feldman also did a wonderful job in the last season and achieved consistent numbers of 5.09 ERA along with a 6-11 win-loss record, 96 strike-outs and 1.38 WHIP.
On the other hand, his career numbers are also quite consistent at 4.81 ERA along with a 39-44 win-loss record, 433 strike-outs and 1.42 WHIP.
