Chicago Cubs hopeful about the future – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs’ pitcher Paul Maholm stated on Monday, February 13, that the moves that the club’s president baseball operations Theo Epstein have made so far will be crucial for the future. Expressing his confidence in the plans formulated so far, he said
the club will win as many games this year as they can.
"He knows what he's doing," Maholm said of Epstein. "All the moves he's made so far have been to better the club for today and for in the future. I think he and Jed have a plan, and they're going to stick to it. They're not wanting to punt this season and
say, 'We'll get them next year.' They want to win as many games as they can this year. That's what we as a group are going to do."
Theo Epstein’s presence in the Cubs is being tipped as something auspicious for the team given the experience and the great credentials Epstein has. Previously it was the Boston Red Sox whom Epstein put on the winning track at a time when the club had not
won any World Series title for decades.
The impressive record that embellishes his credentials shall now be repeated in the Chicago Cubs as well. Epstein was quick to implement what the Cubs needed to improve internally. First and foremost, he brought in Dale Sveum to take over the managerial
responsibilities.
Afterward the likes of bullpen coach Lester Strode, third-base coach Pat Listach and the hitting coach in the form of Rudy Jaramillo. The club’s general manager Jed Hoyer is one of the biggest names that Theo Epstein brought to the franchise.
With the frontline office ever illustrious, consisting of eminent names, the club has had a 40-man roster that is no less strong in their formation, capable of posing a decent challenge to any team in the Division.
Although the Chicago Cubs lost more than 90 games during the past season, this year there is a renewed energy and zeal that characterises the team. It will be interesting to see how the changes translate into some on-field success during the upcoming 2012
Major League Baseball regular season.
