Chicago Cubs hopeful of Anthony Rizzo’s resurgence – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs could not hold their ground on Wednesday, August 22 and lost the game to Milwaukee Brewers 3-2. Among other concerns, it was the first baseman Anthony Rizzo’s performance that the manager Dale Sveum was to address.
Speaking to journalists, the manager put forth his perspective as to what has gone wrong lately. It is pertinent to mention here that Anthony Rizzo has had a .244 average in August, much lower than his impressive average last month.
While speaking on the matter, Dale Sveum said, "He's fallen into a little bit of the pitch selection and [has been] caught in between -- 'Do I take? Do I swing at the first pitch? I think he's going through a lot of that instead of having the same thought of just getting a good pitch."
While shedding light on this aspect, Dale Sveum came up with his advice on what course the first baseman should be taking. Also important to note here is that prior to the commencement of Wednesday’s game, Anthony Rizzo had admitted he had been witnessing a slump in August.
Anthony had said that he was not feeling great at the plate, something that has been frustrating for him. That aspect was also addressed by the team manager.
"You can't think about situations all the time," Sveum said. "You have to just apply yourself and produce in the situation at hand. You can't think, 'I've got to do this, I've got to do this.'. That's what I think we struggle with is the game plans go out the window too often."
Until last month, Rizzo had a .330 batting average, something that was impressive for the rookie first baseman. Previously a player for the San Diego Padres, Rizzo was a great discovery for the Cubs to introduce him in the club this year.
The Cubs are keeping their fingers crossed for a better performance from the first baseman ahead as the season begins to wind down. Whether he will be able to regain his form is something that remains to be seen, not only for him but also for the fans.
