Chicago Cubs huge victory over Atlanta Braves 5-1 thanks to Jeff Samardzija – MLB Update
It was Chicago Cubs day as Jeff Samardzija allowed only five hits and a run in his seven strong innings followed by Bryan LaHair, Ian Stewart and Geovany Soto all scoring to help the team to a 5-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Monday, May 7 at Wrigley
Field, Chicago.
Cubs are having a hard season this year as they are placed at the bottom of the National League Central Division. They currently share the same stats with the Milwaukee Brewers with a 12-18 win loss record. Whereas the Atlanta Braves are having a promising
season as they are placed at the second place in the National League East Division with a win loss record of 19-12.
Samardzija had a homer from Jason Heyward in the second and struck-out seven of the Braves helping the Cubs in their victory. LaHair homered Tommy Hanson over right field completing his eighth of the season. Then it was Stewart, after the next the pitch
he also hit a homer, his third of this season, making the score 2-1. Later in the eighth Soto hit a two-run homer.
Hanson lost (3-3) and gave up five hits and two runs in his six innings.
An ugly incident occurred as Braves reliever Eric O’Flaherty plunked David Dejesus and the umpire ejected Atlanta’s manager Fredi Gonzalez when he came out of the dugout.
Carlos Marmol, the demoted Chicago player pitched decently despite receiving a round of boos from the Wrigley Field faithful. He walked the first two batters in the eighth inning. Brian McCann was struck-out for the second out and Mormal struck Dan Uggla
out turning round of boos into a round of applause. When he came off the mound, he was all pumped on his good performance.
Now Cubs will be taking on the Braves for the second game on May, 8. Atlanta Braves will be looking to level the series for sure. It will be interesting to see how the Braves managed to build some confidence in their game and put in a good performance against
the Cubs in their second game of the series.
