Chicago Cubs in no hurry to make the right decision on new manager selection – MLB News

The Chicago Cubs’ general manager Jed Hoyer thinks that it suffices to interview the four candidates for the managerial post lying vacant after Mike Quade was dismissed last week. Hoyer was talking to the journalists and discussed the issue on Friday, November
11.
He was specifically asked if the Cubs were intending to only consider the four names which have gone through interview so far. Yet, he does not completely rule out the possibility of making few phone calls in this regard.
"Probably, yes," Hoyer said Friday about whether this was the Cubs' final four. "We may make some phone calls. I wouldn't guarantee that it is, but we feel really good about the four guys we brought in. We had four very good interviews.”
The four candidates whom the Cubs interviewed were the Milwaukee Brewers’ hitting coach Dale Sveum, Cleveland Indians’ bench coach Sandy Alomar, Philadelphia Phillies’ Pete Mackanin and Texas Rangers’ pitching coach Mike Maddux.
Hoyer is not inclined to go for a quick decision. Considering the fact that the Chicago Cubs have undergone a huge change in the recent weeks on an administrative level, it is understandable to see no rush on the part of the team management.
With Theo Epstein as president of baseball operations, Hoyer stated that extensive meetings and discussions will bring about the final result as to who will take the charge of the Cubs as the new manager.
"We want to make the right decision, not the quick decision," Hoyer said. "We'll be in Milwaukee next week [at the general manager meetings]. We'll have a lot of meetings, , but Theo and I will spend a lot of time on this process as well."
Apart from the managerial post which is to be decided by the Chicago Cubs, the management is also sorting out the compensation issue between the team and the Boston Red Sox on Epstein’s contract.
The Cubs intend to reactivate their line-up as far as the starting pitchers are concerned. Also, the Cubs will be looking to see the names of the most probable players for the 40-man roster for the 2012 regular season with a view that they all perform up
to the mark.
