Chicago Cubs intend to build a ‘consistently good’ team – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer has said that the club wants to build a consistently good team; and a combination of the players that has the capability to win a championship.
In the recent weeks, the Cubs have signed some of the quality pitchers; including other trades that will go a long way to determine the team’s success.
"It's a line we're committed to walking," said Hoyer. "Our goal here is to build a consistently good team..and hopefully a team that wins a championship. In order to do that, we're not going to sacrifice the future now for wins. But at the same time, every
season is precious, and you never know when that team might catch lightning in a bottle. You never want to sacrifice that season entirely."
It is clear that the club does not premise its success on bringing in the experienced players alone. Relying on one swift stroke, like changing the outlook of roster, is not the sole intent. What the Cubs intend to do, like it was stated earlier, is to form
a consistent lot of players.
Transformation, therefore, will be a slow process. That there is no haste being shown at this point in time is a forceful commentary on how the Cubs want to proceed.
"We know we can't transform this organization in one year, so every year we should be able to stop and look and say we have a lot more assets, a lot more talent than we had before," Hoyer said.
Nonetheless, a quick look at the players who were recently signed by the Cubs makes it clear that the upcoming season would be radically different from the ones that the club previously had. It is an essentially capable and well-knit unit now which has the
potential to take on the tough rivals.
Thus what the Cubs witnessed in 2012, losing 101 games, would for sure be avoided this coming season. Level of preparation is a markedly different. Therefore, the preparedness and competitiveness would now be commensurate with magnitude of challenge that
the club has to grapple with.
