Chicago Cubs look for contract with Cuban talent Yoenis Cespedes – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs’ bid to secure a contract with a potential talent Yoenis Cespedes hailing from Cuba is being received with mixed reactions. Ranging from that of excitement to criticism and amazement, the 26-year-old Cuban talent has a lot to go through
before he formally becomes part of the Chicago Cubs.
The fact that the Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, Toronto Blue Jays, Pittsburgh Pirates, Texas Rangers, Washington Nationals, Florida Marlins, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics are also deeply interested in making him part of
their team makes Cespedes a strong candidate.
But this can become a problem for the Chicago Cubs as well. There are reports that the Cubs are willing to invest as big a sum as 30-million-dollars to secure the contract with the talented player. However, this decision has not only been welcomed but also
criticised for a host of reasons.
There are suggestions that hiring him for the Minor League for a huge amount of 30-million-dollars will not be beneficial for the team in the long run. The fans argue that by the time he makes it to Major League Baseball, he may well be 28-years-old considering
the fact that it takes a minimum of two years to go upward.
Nonetheless, given the startling talent that the player possesses, he is still the best bet the Chicago Cubs have had lately. From Theo Epstein to Jed Hoyer who recently became the part of the Cubs, arrival of new talent in the roster will provide a huge
boost to the team.
Cespedes has set himself apart from his contemporaries by hitting 33 home-runs, a record for a season in Cuba. His record came with a big grand slam. Now that he is part of the Cuban team, he is said to be in practice in the Dominican Republic.
With a lot yet to be sorted out by both the Chicago Cubs and the new player’s agent (the deal being worth 30-million-dollars), it remains to be seen when the Cuban player secures his place in the team to evince his tremendous talent.
